Sharon Grimes with studios in Santa Fe, New Mexico and Longview, Texas is a self-taught contemporary abstract artist whose art is expressed with vivid colors and vibrant energy in all of its textures and layers.
She first became interested in art at a young age and grew up loving to sketch people, animals, and surroundings. In her early Twenties, her passion for art blossomed as she was inspired by the many galleries and museums she frequented in London while living abroad for a year.
It is fascinating to see how she ventures onto a new project with a birch panel that is constructed for her locally, with a 2 inch cradle. For her artworks, Grimes uses quite a selection of products and this is why she describes her work as Mixed Media. She likes to make marks with pastel, charcoal and finally oil sticks. She always has gold Leaf on hand as well as an assortment of pencils, pens and sharpies. She never knows what the painting will call for from moment to moment. She wants to be prepared to respond.
Grimes was a 2014 Hunting Art Prize finalist. Her work has been described by Sara Eyestone, artist, writer and curator of La Posada de Santa Fe and Spa, as a “feast for the eyes.”
Julia Ross of Art Gallery Pure says, "This abstract impressionistic artist's work demonstrates a quality found in spiritual artwork, ethereal atmospheres sometimes containing bold and dynamic burst of colors. There is a dreamlike quality to Sharon Grimes artwork. Found internationally with obvious influences of spirit, her work brings the beholder to peace."
Grimes paintings are currently being exhibited Art Nou Mil.leni Gallery in Barcelona, Spain and Day2day Gallery in Collioure, France through September of 2021. In November, her work will be at New York Expo in New York City. Former solo shows include the Arts and Humanities Council in Texarkana, Texas; Elm Street Studio in Keller, Texas; and Arcadia Show in Tyler, Texas. She was honored to judge the 57th Student Invitation of Longview Museum of Fine Arts as well as exhibiting her own work in the main gallery. Group shoes include R.W. Norton Gallery in Shreveport, Louisiana; Longview Museum of Art; and P's Gallery in Longview, Texas.
